Section I · The Ranked Twelve
From best to twelfth.
Ranked by written pet policy, by grounds fencing, by vet proximity, and by deposit fairness.
No. I
Tuscany Chianti farmhouse, pet-policy verified.
Bedrooms: 7. Sleeps: 14. Pet policy: two dogs of any size, in writing on the lease, no surcharge above the standard cleaning fee. Fenced grounds 1.4 hectares. Vet: within 8 kilometres at Greve in Chianti. Peak rate: €14,000 to €28,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Chianti farmhouse tradition is the most dog-tolerant inventory in Europe. Stone-floored interiors, fenced gardens of 1 to 2 hectares, and managers who themselves keep dogs. Two large breeds on the same lease is the realistic capacity for the seven-bedroom country house. The Greve and Radda vet network is dense.
What we would change: the August Chianti dust season is harder on long-haired breeds than the spring or autumn. Plan May to June or September to October for the dog’s sake, not just the buyer’s.

No. II
Provence Lubéron mas, pet-policy verified.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, no surcharge. Fenced grounds 0.9 hectares. Vet: within 12 kilometres at Apt or Bonnieux. Peak rate: €18,000 to €38,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: Le Collectionist holds the cleanest verified-pet-policy inventory in Provence. The Lubéron mas product is the right scale for two dogs, the grounds are routinely fenced (boar protection is the original reason), and the Apt and Bonnieux vet network is competent. Verified on lecollectionist.com 2026-05-14.
What we would change: the Provence dog policy is on a per-villa basis. Confirm in writing on the rental contract. The Le Collectionist concierge handles this on request.

No. III
Cotswolds country house, kate & tom’s portfolio.
Bedrooms: 8. Sleeps: 16. Pet policy: up to three dogs across selected properties, in writing on the lease, modest cleaning surcharge (typically £75 per dog per stay). Fenced grounds 1 to 3 hectares. Vet: within 6 kilometres at most Cotswolds properties. Peak rate: £15,000 to £38,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: kate & tom’s runs the largest pet-friendly UK country-house inventory at the luxury tier. The shooting-house background means the houses were built with dogs as a structural assumption. Boot rooms, dog-shower bays, fenced paddocks.
What we would change: ask for the dog-bedding policy on the day of arrival. Some Cotswolds owners prefer dogs downstairs only. Confirm before booking if your dogs sleep upstairs at home.

No. IV
Mallorca Tramuntana finca, Plum Guide.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, no surcharge on selected fincas. Fenced grounds 1.5 hectares. Vet: within 10 kilometres at Soller or Deia. Peak rate: €18,000 to €42,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Mallorca Tramuntana finca product is the Mediterranean’s most reliable pet-friendly inventory. Stone-floored interiors, fenced grounds (the Mallorcan boundary-stone tradition is the structural reason), and dense vet coverage around Soller and Deia. Plum Guide carries the largest verified inventory.
What we would change: the Tramuntana terrain is steep. Older dogs or those with hip issues need flat-grounds villas. Filter by “flat garden” at the booking stage.

No. V
Hamptons estate, pet-policy verified.
Bedrooms: 8. Sleeps: 16. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing on the lease, $1,500 refundable deposit. Fenced grounds 0.8 hectares with deer fencing. Vet: within 9 kilometres at East Hampton or Bridgehampton. Peak rate: $45,000 to $115,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Hamptons rental market is generally not pet-friendly. The 8 to 12 properties that accept dogs concentrate in Sagaponack, East Hampton, and Bridgehampton on estates with deer-fenced perimeters. Plum Guide holds the cleanest verified pet-policy entries.
What we would change: tick-borne disease pressure is high in the Hamptons. Bring tick prevention or buy it on arrival. The vet network handles same-day extraction.

No. VI
Napa Valley vineyard estate, dog-friendly.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, $750 refundable. Fenced grounds 2 hectares. Vet: within 9 kilometres at St Helena or Yountville. Peak rate: $24,000 to $48,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Napa Valley vineyard estate inventory contains a small dog-friendly subset on the Carneros and Calistoga side, where the deer-fence perimeters work for dogs. The 2015 Napa County event ordinance does not restrict pets, only guests. Beautiful Places and Mayastoga both carry verified entries.
What we would change: Napa Valley wildfire risk peaks August to October. Confirm the air-quality clause in the lease covers pet evacuation arrangements.

No. VII
Aspen residential chalet, dog-friendly.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, $500 refundable. Fenced grounds 0.4 hectares. Vet: within 4 kilometres at Aspen Animal Hospital. Peak rate: $38,000 to $95,000 per week (winter); $18,000 to $32,000 (summer).
Why it ranks here: Aspen residential is more pet-tolerant than most ski-town inventory because the resident base keeps dogs at scale. CUVÉE and Frias Properties both verify pet policies per booking. The dog-friendly trail network on Smuggler Mountain and Hunter Creek is the structural attraction in summer.
What we would change: Aspen winter holiday weeks (Christmas, New Year, Presidents) book the dog-friendly inventory out earliest. Plan 12 months ahead for those windows.

No. VIII
Comporta Pereira Miguel villa, pet-friendly.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, no surcharge. Fenced grounds 1 hectare, sand-pine forest. Vet: within 18 kilometres at Alcácer do Sal. Peak rate: €18,000 to €42,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Comporta architect-villa inventory (Pereira Miguel, Vera Iachia) was built with dogs in mind. Concrete and timber surfaces, fenced gardens, beach access for off-lead morning walks. Le Collectionist holds the largest verified inventory. Verified on lecollectionist.com 2026-05-14.
What we would change: the Comporta beach permits dogs off-lead before 09:00 and after 19:00 May to September. Inside those hours, lead-only.

No. IX
Costa Smeralda residential, dog-friendly.
Bedrooms: 7. Sleeps: 14. Pet policy: one or two dogs on selected properties, in writing, €500 refundable. Fenced grounds 0.7 hectares. Vet: within 12 kilometres at Porto Cervo. Peak rate: €28,000 to €85,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Costa Smeralda 1962 master-plan villas (Romazzino-side, Pevero Bay, Porto Cervo Marina) include a small pet-friendly subset. The Maremma sheepdog tradition makes the local handlers and vets competent with large breeds. Le Collectionist coordinates the inventory.
What we would change: the Costa Smeralda beach concessions vary on dog rules. The free public beaches are pet-permissive; the resort concessions are not. Plan walks accordingly.

No. X
Algarve country villa, dog-friendly.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, no surcharge. Fenced grounds 1.2 hectares. Vet: within 15 kilometres at Lagos or Albufeira. Peak rate: €8,200 to €22,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the inland Algarve villa product (Boavista, Carvoeiro hills, Vila Vita-adjacent) is the Mediterranean’s best-value pet-friendly inventory. Stone-floored interiors, fenced grounds, the Portuguese cultural permissiveness towards dogs in dining rooms. Plum Guide holds the largest verified entries.
What we would change: the Algarve August heat is hard on short-nosed breeds. Plan May, June, September, or October for older or brachycephalic dogs.

No. XI
Lake Garda western-shore villa, dog-friendly.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing, no surcharge. Fenced grounds 0.9 hectares. Vet: within 8 kilometres at Salò. Peak rate: €15,000 to €38,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: the Brescian western shore of Lake Garda holds a dog-tolerant residential inventory at lower absolute rates than Como. The lake-side walking is the structural attraction. Boathouses on selected entries serve as dog-shower bays on return from swims.
What we would change: Lake Garda lakeside paths are often gravel rather than tarmac. Older dogs find the grip easier; high-pace breeds find the constraint frustrating.

No. XII
Queenstown lakefront lodge, NZ.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pet policy: two dogs, in writing on selected properties, NZ$800 refundable. Fenced grounds 0.6 hectares. Vet: within 6 kilometres in Queenstown CBD. Peak rate: NZ$24,000 to NZ$48,000 per week.
Why it ranks here: Queenstown’s lakefront inventory includes a small dog-friendly subset on the Kelvin Heights, Closeburn, and Lake Hayes sides. The South Island walking tradition is the structural attraction. New Zealand biosecurity restricts pet imports from most countries; verify the entry permit before booking.
What we would change: the NZ pet-import process takes 90 to 180 days for new applications. Plan the trip on that timeline if the dog has not entered NZ before.
