Section I · The Ranked Twelve
From best to twelfth.
Ranked by the cliff asset (view, swim access, terrace size) and the villa’s ability to deliver at the position. The number-one villa is the Capri Belvedere cliff-front.
No. I
The Capri cliff-front Belvedere villa, Le Collectionist.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Destination: Capri, Italy. Position: Belvedere or Marina Piccola cliff-front, 40 to 120 metres above the sea. Peak rate: €48,000 to €95,000 / week. Included: housekeeper, gardener, pool service, Le Collectionist concierge, boat-charter coordination. Not included: chef, daily housekeeping, golf cart shuttle to Capri town, beach-club access at Da Luigi or Marina Piccola.
Why it ranks here: Capri is the global benchmark for the cliff-front villa. The Belvedere position above the Faraglioni, the Tiberio-side overlook, and the Marina Piccola cliff-front strip each carry the geographic asset that no other destination can replicate. Six bedrooms, infinity pool over the rocks, the sea is the view from every room. Le Collectionist holds the strongest cliff-front Capri portfolio (verified on lecollectionist.com, May 2026).
What we would change: Capri tourist density July through August is the structural cost. The villa is the answer to that density, not exposed to it, but the trip into town runs slow in afternoon traffic. Plan a private boat day to Positano for one full afternoon.

No. II
The Amalfi Coast cliff-front villa, Praiano or Ravello.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Destination: Amalfi Coast, Italy. Position: Praiano or Ravello cliff-front, 60 to 200 metres above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Peak rate: €38,000 to €85,000 / week. Included: housekeeper, gardener, pool service, driver (essential on the coast road). Not included: chef, boat-charter, beach-club access.
Why it ranks here: the Amalfi cliff-front is the closest substitute to Capri at 25 to 40 percent below the Capri rate. Praiano sits between Positano and Amalfi at the quieter mid-coast position. Ravello sits above the road, 350 metres above sea level, with the Wagner-and-Gore-Vidal heritage and the strongest individual properties on the coast. Le Collectionist Amalfi inventory verified on lecollectionist.com, May 2026.
What we would change: the coast road traffic in July and August adds 60 to 120 minutes to most days. Driver is non-negotiable; do not attempt the SS163 yourself.

No. III
The St Barts Pointe Milou cliff-front, Le Collectionist top tier.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Destination: Pointe Milou, St Barts. Position: cliff-front above the Atlantic. Peak rate (high winter): $95,000 to $185,000 / week. Peak rate (summer): $42,000 to $68,000 / week. Included: chef (breakfast plus one meal, six days), butler, housekeeping daily, two cars, pool service. Not included: groceries (budget $220 to $260 per person per day), boat charter.
Why it ranks here: Pointe Milou is the trophy cliff-front on St Barts, the east-coast position above the Atlantic with the strongest concentration of full-staff cliff-front estates. The Le Collectionist top tier and Onefinestay carry the verified inventory. Christmas through New Year rates double the summer; the summer rate is the value proposition. Verified Le Collectionist top-tier St Barts coverage May 2026.
What we would change: the Atlantic surf at Pointe Milou is unswimmable directly off the cliff. Use the villa pool for swimming; drive to Gouverneur or Saline beach for the sand day.

No. IV
The Costa Smeralda cliff-front estate, Le Collectionist Romazzino side.
Bedrooms: 8. Sleeps: 16. Destination: Costa Smeralda, Sardinia. Position: Romazzino or Pevero cliff-front, 30 to 80 metres above a private cove. Peak rate: €58,000 to €145,000 / week. Included: housekeeper, gardener, pool service, security, Le Collectionist concierge. Not included: chef, daily housekeeping, boat charter, beach-club access at Phi Beach or Cala di Volpe.
Why it ranks here: the Aga-Khan-era master plan produced a coastline of cliff-front estate plots that no other Mediterranean destination delivers. The Romazzino-Pevero stretch holds the trophy cliff-front inventory. Eight bedrooms across the main and pavilion buildings, infinity pool over a private cove, private path to the rocks below. The Aga Khan green-belt rules limit new construction, which holds the inventory rare.
What we would change: the August Costa Smeralda peak runs the second-week premium. Travel late June or late September for the same property at a 35 percent discount.

No. V
The Cabo Pedregal cliff-front, Pacific facing.
Bedrooms: 7. Sleeps: 14. Destination: Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Position: Pacific cliff-front, 20 to 60 metres above the surf. Peak rate: $48,000 to $145,000 / week. Included: full staff (chef plus prep cook, butler, housekeepers, security, two cars, pool service, gate-pass coordination). Not included: groceries (budget $150 to $200 per person per day), boat charter, golf.
Why it ranks here: Pedregal is the gated cliff-front community on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, holding the trophy seven-bedroom cliff-front estates with full-staff chef-included service. The North-American-destination position with the chef-included rate is the structural value. The Pacific cliffs sit above unswimmable surf, which is the trade for the cliff position.
What we would change: Pedregal gate passes take 48 hours to process. Send guest list at booking. The surf at Pedregal beach is unswimmable; use the villa pool and book a day at Chileno or Santa Maria for swimming.

No. VI
The Mauritius Le Morne cliff-front catered villa.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Destination: Le Morne or Black River, Mauritius. Position: cliff-front above the Indian Ocean, 15 to 35 metres above. Peak rate: €14,000 to €28,000 / week. Included: catered-villa standard (chef included, three meals six days), housekeeping daily, butler, gardener, pool service, four-by-four with driver. Not included: groceries (often supplied at cost, budget €60 to €100 per person per day), kitesurf school, golf.
Why it ranks here: the Mauritius catered-villa tradition runs the full-service cliff-front at a 50 to 65 percent discount to the Caribbean equivalent. Le Morne sits on the southwest corner of Mauritius, the kitesurf and surf side, with the cliff-front villas above the lagoon. Maurice Villas catered standard verified May 2026.
What we would change: the cliff-front position above the lagoon is the postcard. The cliff staircase down to the rocks is not for guests with mobility constraints. Confirm the descent in writing.

No. VII
The Santorini caldera-front cliff villa, Oia.
Bedrooms: 4. Sleeps: 8. Destination: Oia, Santorini. Position: caldera-front cliff, 250 to 380 metres above the water. Peak rate: €18,000 to €45,000 / week. Included: caldera-view infinity pool (heated), housekeeping daily, breakfast service, one car. Not included: chef, boat-charter for caldera cruise, sunset-restaurant reservations.
Why it ranks here: Oia’s caldera-edge position is the structural cliff-front of Santorini. The vertical drop is 250 to 380 metres straight down to the volcanic water. The villas hold the sunset view that prices the destination. Four bedrooms is the standard top configuration; the cave-house architecture does not scale much beyond. Plum Guide Oia 586-listing inventory verified May 2026 (Santorini destination page cross-reference).
What we would change: the caldera position does not deliver swim access. The descent to Ammoudi Bay is 286 steps. Use the villa pool for swimming and the caldera for the sunset.

No. VIII
The Ibiza cliff-front, Cala Jondal or Es Cubells.
Bedrooms: 7. Sleeps: 14. Destination: Cala Jondal or Es Cubells, southwest Ibiza. Position: cliff-front above the Mediterranean, 40 to 90 metres above. Peak rate: €38,000 to €85,000 / week. Included: housekeeper, gardener, pool service, one car, sometimes private path to a rocky swim platform. Not included: chef, daily housekeeping, beach-club table at Blue Marlin or Amante.
Why it ranks here: Es Cubells is the cliff-front Ibiza position above the southwest sunset coast. Cala Jondal is the cliff above the Blue Marlin beach club. Both deliver the cliff-asset and the south-coast sunset orientation. Le Collectionist Ibiza inventory cross-checked May 2026.
What we would change: the Ibiza party-island brand is the wrong filter for these cliff-front villas. The position is quiet, the rate is high, and the property is the trip. Day-club booking is the side.

No. IX
The Saint-Tropez Ramatuelle cliff-front.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Destination: Ramatuelle, Saint-Tropez peninsula. Position: cliff-front above the Pampelonne or the Camarat side, 30 to 80 metres above. Peak rate: €38,000 to €85,000 / week. Included: housekeeper, gardener, pool service, Le Collectionist concierge. Not included: chef, daily housekeeping, beach-club access at Club 55 or Loulou.
Why it ranks here: the Ramatuelle cliff-fronts hold the rare Saint-Tropez position that is neither in town nor in the Pampelonne beach-club strip. The cliff above the Mediterranean delivers the sea view, the proximity to the beach clubs by car, and the quiet that the town itself does not. Le Collectionist Saint-Tropez inventory verified May 2026.
What we would change: the road into Saint-Tropez town from Ramatuelle in August adds 60 to 90 minutes. Use the boat from Pampelonne to Saint-Tropez for the dinner trips.

No. X
The Mykonos Aleomandra cliff-front sea-view villa.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Destination: Aleomandra, Mykonos. Position: cliff-front above the west-coast Delos channel, 20 to 60 metres above. Peak rate: €18,000 to €28,000 / week. Included: full staff, two cars, infinity pool over the cliff edge, west-facing terrace. Not included: chef, beach club table at Nammos or Scorpios.
Why it ranks here: the Aleomandra neighborhood is the western Mykonos cliff-front strip with the Delos sunset orientation. Most Mykonos “sea-view” villas sit inland and do not deliver the cliff position. Aleomandra delivers it. Five bedrooms is the standard top configuration on the cliff edge.
What we would change: the meltemi wind July and August. Outdoor dining is a fight on the cliff-edge terrace two to three nights a week. The architects of the better villas plan for it; confirm the sheltered terrace configuration before booking.

No. XI
The Pantelleria dammuso seafront, Sicily.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Destination: Pantelleria, Sicily. Position: volcanic seafront, direct rocky water access. Peak rate: €18,000 to €38,000 / week. Included: cook (six days, breakfast plus one meal), housekeeping (three times weekly), pool, gardener. Not included: groceries, driver, wine cellar.
Why it ranks here: Pantelleria is the volcanic island where the dammuso architecture sits directly on the rocky seafront. The villa terrace meets the sea over volcanic stone, with swim platforms cut into the rock. The Thinking Traveller holds the brokered seafront inventory. The trade for the cliff is the wind: Pantelleria is windy by structural geography.
What we would change: the wind is the trade. Confirm the sheltered cove orientation before booking and avoid the exposed eastern shore.

No. XII
The Bali Uluwatu cliff-front villa, Bukit Peninsula.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Destination: Uluwatu or Padang Padang, Bukit Peninsula, Bali. Position: Indian Ocean cliff-front, 50 to 100 metres above the surf. Peak rate: $18,000 to $42,000 / week. Included: two chefs (three meals, six days), housekeeping daily, butler, gardener, security, pool service, driver. Not included: groceries (budget $60 to $90 per person per day), surf instructor, spa.
Why it ranks here: Bukit Peninsula is the cliff-edge southern tip of Bali, the surf-trip cliff-front, with the strongest concentration of full-staff cliff-front villas at the Bali price point. Two chefs, three meals a day, six days a week, on a cliff-edge six-bedroom. The math is the cheapest full-staff cliff-front rate on this list.
What we would change: the cliff-front position above the surf does not deliver swim access for non-surfers. Use the villa pool and drive to Nusa Dua for the protected-cove swimming day.
