Section I · The Ranked Twelve
Most villa per dollar, first.
Ranked on staff, systems, and what the rate actually covers at peak.
No. I
The Marrakech six-bedroom in the Palmeraie.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Palmeraie, north of the medina. Peak rate: $9,000 to $13,000 / week. Staff: 8. Included: full staff, three meals a day, two cars with drivers, daily housekeeping.
Why it ranks first: the best value in this guide and on our wider index. Eight staff, a cook for three meals, and two drivers at $13,000 a week is a ratio no Mediterranean address approaches. The Palmeraie is 30 minutes from the medina with the calm the medina lacks, and the property runs its own well and backup power.
What we would change: the drive into Marrakech for dinner is the cost of the calm. Build a couple of in-villa dinners into the week.

No. II
The Bali six-bedroom in Canggu.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Canggu, southwest Bali. Peak rate: $10,000 to $14,500 / week. Staff: 12. Included: full staff, three chef-prepared meals, one car with driver, daily housekeeping.
Why it ranks here: twelve staff and three meals a day at $14,500 is the Asia value story in one line. Canggu puts the surf, the cafes, and the day clubs within ten minutes, and the property has verified generator backup, which matters on an island that loses power.
What we would change: Canggu traffic has thickened in the last two years. The 10-minute drive can be 25 at sunset.

No. III
The Puglia seven-bedroom masseria in the Valle d’Itria.
Bedrooms: 7. Sleeps: 14. Pocket: Valle d’Itria, between Ostuni and Locorotondo. Peak rate: $12,000 to $14,500 / week. Staff: 4. Included: staff, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, beach transfers.
Why it ranks here: a restored masseria with a 16m pool and 14 beds for under $15,000 at peak is southern Italy doing what Tuscany used to. The stone keeps the rooms cool through the August heat, and the property has its own olive grove.
What we would change: the nearest swimmable beach is 45 minutes. This is an inland week with day trips, not a beach base.

No. IV
The Algarve six-bedroom near Carvoeiro.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Carvoeiro, central Algarve. Peak rate: $11,000 to $14,000 / week. Staff: 5. Included: staff, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, beach club concierge.
Why it ranks here: Portugal is the lower-priced entry point on the European coast, and this Carvoeiro property has the systems iteration of a builder on a third project: water reclaim, solar hot water, and a septic sized for 12.
What we would change: the last 400 meters of access road are unpaved. A small rental car struggles in winter rain; book an SUV.

No. V
The Tuscany six-bedroom in Chianti.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Chianti, between Florence and Siena. Peak rate: $12,500 to $14,800 / week. Staff: 3. Included: housekeeping, cook for dinner three nights, one car. Not included: full-day chef, transfers beyond 40 km.
Why it ranks here: a single-key Chianti villa with a private pool and a cook three nights, under $15,000, is the Tuscan product the agriturismo rate now competes with. Florence airport is 40 minutes and the wineries are the neighbors.
What we would change: the pool is unheated, which a May or October booking will feel.

No. VI
The Corfu six-bedroom on the northeast coast.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Kassiopi side, northeast Corfu. Peak rate: $12,000 to $14,500 / week. Staff: 4. Included: staff, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, boat days.
Why it ranks here: the calm Greek alternative to a windy Cycladic week. Corfu sits west of the meltemi, so the sea is swimmable when Mykonos is whitecapping. The northeast coast has the green hills the Cyclades lack.
What we would change: the restaurant scene is thinner than the islands. Plan a chef night or two.

No. VII
The Koh Samui six-bedroom above Bophut.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: Bophut hills, north Koh Samui. Peak rate: $9,500 to $14,000 / week. Staff: 10. Included: full staff, three chef-prepared meals, one car with driver.
Why it ranks here: ten staff and three meals at $14,000 is the second-best ratio in this guide. The Bophut hills look across to Koh Phangan, and the property runs backup power for the storm season.
What we would change: the hillside road is steep and slick after rain. The drivers handle it; a self-drive guest should not.

No. VIII
The Paros five-bedroom.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pocket: near Naoussa, north Paros. Peak rate: $13,000 to $14,800 / week. Staff: 3. Included: daily breakfast, housekeeping, one car. Not included: chef, boat days.
Why it ranks here: the Cycladic island that gives you Mykonos light at two-thirds the rate. Naoussa has the tables and the harbor without the 4 a.m. bass, and the property tucks behind the wind line.
What we would change: the meltemi reaches Paros too in August. Check which way the terrace faces before you book.

No. IX
The Lake Garda five-bedroom on the west shore.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pocket: Gardone Riviera side, west shore. Peak rate: $11,500 to $14,000 / week. Staff: 3. Included: housekeeping, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, boat days.
Why it ranks here: the family-friendly Italian lake at a fraction of Como. Garda is walkable, the lakefront towns are flat, and Verona airport is 40 minutes. The right pick for a group with children and grandparents.
What we would change: Garda lacks the glamour of Como, which is the point and the trade.

No. X
The Mallorca five-bedroom in the interior.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pocket: near Santa Maria del Cami, central Mallorca. Peak rate: $12,000 to $14,500 / week. Staff: 3. Included: housekeeping, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, beach transfers.
Why it ranks here: the interior finca that costs half the Deia rate and trades only the sea view for it. Palma airport and the beaches are each 30 minutes, and the stone build holds the heat off.
What we would change: no walk-to beach, so the car is essential every day.

No. XI
The Provence six-bedroom in the Luberon.
Bedrooms: 6. Sleeps: 12. Pocket: near Apt, eastern Luberon. Peak rate: $13,000 to $14,800 / week. Staff: 3. Included: housekeeping, daily breakfast, one car. Not included: chef, coast transfers.
Why it ranks here: the eastern Luberon is the affordable side of Provence, with the same markets and light as the Gordes pocket at a lower rate. A 20m pool and mature gardens at under $15,000.
What we would change: the coast is 90 minutes, so this is a countryside week, not a beach base.

No. XII
The Sri Lanka five-bedroom near Galle.
Bedrooms: 5. Sleeps: 10. Pocket: south coast, near Galle. Peak rate: $8,500 to $13,000 / week. Staff: 9. Included: full staff, three chef-prepared meals, one car with driver.
Why it ranks here: nine staff and three meals at $13,000 is the lowest all-in on the index for a fully staffed house. The Galle fort is 20 minutes and the south-coast beaches are a short drive.
What we would change: the May to September monsoon rules out half the year on the south coast. Book the December to March window.
